When the Weather is Good...

Tulips

Many of our residents take great pride in their flowers and landscaping. We have captured some of the most beautiful springtime labors of love our community has to offer on our beloved Wesley Place in Bloom page.

But, When It Is Bad...

Mother nature and chance play no favorites. Wesley Place has been subjected to severe weather at times. Here are worst episodes since Wesley Place opened in 1984.

Airplane Crash, June 1989

You read that right. Wesley Place was indeed the location of an airplane crash on June 9, 1989. A twin engine Cessna 421B traveling from Indianapolis, Indiana to Jacksonville, Florida broke apart in midair in a thunderstorm. One engine landed in the narrow gap between 8953 and its garage, another engine landed on a deck in Bennington, and the flattened fuselage, with pilot crushed inside, landed in the circle of Phase II. The NTSB Accident Report lists icing, turbulence, and possible drug impairment among the factors contributing to the accident.

Hailstorm, 2002

A severe hailstorm in the summer of 2002 resulted in enough damage to necessitate replacing all of our roofs.

Hailstorm, April 2011

On April 27, 2011, we experienced our second severe hailstorm. This storm also resulted in the need for everyone to replace their roof. The airport reported 3.55 inches of rain and high wind gusts. The April 2011 hailstorm page documents much of the damage.

Flood, February 2019

On February 23 and 24, 2019 record rains caused severe flooding throughout East Tennessee, including here at Wesley Place. This event is documented in February 2019 flood page. Hike up your pants and dive in.

An Important Notice about Insurance

Wesley Place owners are homeowners, not condo owners, and not renters. Be sure that you have homeowner's insurance on your unit. While the Homeowner's Association, via dues, will maintain your roof due to normal use, it will not replace your roof in an event like the hailstorm documented here.

Not all roof damage can we seen from the ground, so in the event of a hailstorm owners are highly encouraged to contact their home insurance company for an inspection. In order to maintain uniformity, the Architectural Committee can provide shingle, gutter, and paint specifications to homeowners for use in repairs.
