Trees have always been a very important part of the aesthetics of our Wesley Place neighborhood and the Association wishes to maintain this woodsy appearance. However, there are times that a tree must be removed such as due to damage, rot, or simply becoming too large for its location. In these instances, if the tree is on private property the owner may request to take the tree down. This request is made to the Grounds Committee and approval is not automatic. Wesley Place has a formal policy that should be followed: WPHA policy for Requests to Remove Trees on Common or Personal Property passed November 8, 2021.
If the request is approved the owner must also plant a replacement or have another tree planted within 12 months of removal. Fall is the best time of year to plant a tree. The location of a self-planted replacement must be approved by the Grounds Committee. If the owner does not want the replacement tree near their property, they may leave the relocation to the Grounds Committee to be placed at some other location in need of a tree.
Note that both the removal and replanting are at the homeowner's expense.
The suggested tree species for replanting are listed in the table below.
Large Trees | Small Trees | Evergreens |
Hickorys Oaks Maples Poplars River Birch White Ash Cherry Hemlock |
Dogwoods Plum Black Cherry Hawthorn Red Bud Japanese Maple Weeping Cherry Crape Myrtle |
Juniper White Spruce Stevens Holly White Fur American Holly |
The trees above are only suggested species; other varieties are subject to approval. Tree approval is based on characteristics and location.
When planting a replacement tree, you must follow these requirements:
If a resident needs help in replanting a replacement tree the Association will be glad to provide a list of qualified Nursey professionals to assist the owner.
Thank you for you cooperation. Together we can keep Wesley Place a vibrant community to live and enjoy.
